Published numbers, checked against the source they came from

A number gets written down once and read for years. The source it came from keeps moving.

Each piece here takes one body of published figures, goes back to the dataset they came from, and reports where the two no longer agree. Every figure is printed by a script that can be re-run, not typed. Each piece also says what it could not check, because a check that could not look reads exactly like one that found nothing.

  The median power plant waiting in California's grid queue expects to connect 5.8 years later than it first filed, and dozens list on-line dates already in the past.

  Of 2,730 World Bank citations on English Wikipedia, 358 sit beside a figure the cited series no longer gives, across 206 articles.

• Clean on paper · 2026-09

  Of the 7,915 US nursing homes with no penalty in CMS's current file, 6,255 were penalised in an earlier edition. Every consumer tool checked shows them as penalty-free.
